HOPE IS ALIVE!

We just returned from our eldest grandson’s Christmas Concert. They shared the same stage with the Arlington Master Chorale. Both groups were fantastic. Not that I am a bit prejudiced! I am a proud Mamo and so glad we were able to hear and see him during the Christmas season.

This week is the third Sunday of Advent. The Advent candle this week is pink. It is the candle of joy! Joy is one of my favorite words. I am preaching from Luke 1: 46-55. It is the passage where Mary sings the Magnificat. The Magnificat is also known as the Song of Mary. The song begins with “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. “ It continues with her praise for God’s mercy, power and justice, highlighting how He lifts the lowly and brings down the proud, filling the hungry and sending the rich away empty. She was so young and yet so ahead of her time. The title of my sermon is: Gentle Mary, Meek and Mild…I Don’t Think So! Come and worship with us and hear a bit of a different take on the mother of Jesus.

This week we will have our annual church Christmas party following worship. Bring a gift for the Chinese gift exchange. There are three ways to mark your gift, C for a child, T for a teenager and A for an adult. It doesn’t need to be expensive, $20 or less. Bring a snack food to share. It’s a lot of fun!

We are about to embark on a new outreach ministry in the coming weeks. More news as it happens.

9:45-10:00 Contempletive prayer and candle lighting
10:00-11:15 (ish) Worship with Communion. All are welcome at the table of grace, mercy and forgiveness.
