Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! Well today the skies opened up and poured out that much needed rain. I gave thanks. I hope you did as well! This is a most interesting week in the life of the Church. This week is the hinge between ordinary time (Pentecost ) and the new season of Advent. The season of Advent is one of contemplation and mystery as we all await the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The interesting thing about this Sunday’s scripture is it speaks of Christ The King. The scripture, Luke 23: 33-43 walks us through from Good Friday to crucifixion. It emphasizes the true kingship of Christ. This is high drama my friends! We watch Jesus be hung on the cross with a crowd that was shouting horrible things at him. And yet, while his broken body is taking the pain of being hung on the cross, he was still able to speak words of peace and promise to one of the thieves hanging beside him.

On the day we celebrate Christ the King, we explore the account of Jesus being mocked for being a so-called King of the Jews. What kind of a king is this? Why does this king, with all the power that Jesus has, allow himself to be crucified in the most humble and shameful way possible? Come and join us for worship and find out! It’s a good story…of A Most Unlikely King.
